Most of the HSFs programs require a minimum of a 3.00 GPA (some higher), U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residence status, and a full-time student status. Additionally, most scholarships are focused on students working towards their first undergraduate degree, though a few graduate programs do exist. Simultaneous application for Federal financial aid using the FAFSA form is also typically required.
The four main categories of scholarships offered through Hispanic Scholarship Foundation are:
Scholarships for Graduating Seniors HSF offers 14 different programs with scholarships ranging from $1,000 - $5,000 per year. Many of these scholarships are funded by companies such as Wal-Mart, Ford, and General Motors, as well as numerous foundations including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Scholarships for Existing College Students HSF offers over 20 scholarship programs providing from $1,000 to $20,000 per year for students already enrolled in college, including a number of programs for graduate students. These programs are generously funded by companies such as Wells Fargo, Verizon, and Macys, as well as numerous private foundations.
Scholarships for Community College and Transfer Students HSF offers seven different scholarships for community college and transfer students, ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 per year.
University Alliance Scholarship Programs HSF partners with the University of Georgia (UGA) and the University of Texas at Austin (UT) to offer scholarships specifically to Hispanic students attending those two schools. Each of these scholarships provides a flat $2,500 per year.
