Loan Forgiveness for Congressional Staff
- I hear Congress (always ready to make exceptions for itself) is considering writing off student loans of staffers. Is this true!? No, the American taxpayer should NOT be helping these people get away from their obligations. On the other hand, people who have skills and can use them to help in areas where help is needed, like under-served areas for doctors, should get their loans forgiven. This is a good investment for taxpayers.

Absolutely
- I got a break on my student loans many years ago by teaching after graduation. Now, student loan burdens are so much higher and these programs are a help both to graduates and society. We need people to work where the pay is low, but the work is for the greater good.

A Great Idea But...
- I say "no". While it's great for those who get to take advantage of the program, it's yet another hit to the American taxpayer - and frankly, I have enough other programs to pay for! Post-secondary education is a privilege, not a right and the people who choose to get educated knew its costs before they started. There's a lot better ways my tax dollars can and should be spent.

It's Good Tax Policy
- The US tax code has lots of breaks for indivduals and companies to encourage certain behaviors the government considers "good". I see no reason not to use that same approach for something as worthwhile as the loan forgiveness programs to get youth into needed fields or locations.

Heck Yeah!
- America needs more good teachers, medical professionals, and lawyers. I have no problem chipping in a few bucks to help these people serve the country.
