Teach for Texas Loan Repayment Assistance Program

Student Loan Forgiveness Amounts:
The Teach for Texas Loan Repayment Assistance Program forgives up to $5,000 in qualifying student loans per year. The maximum amount of student loans that can be forgiven is $20,000 over no more than five years.

To be considered an eligible loan, it must:

  • Not currently be in default.
  • Not be covered under another repayment program.
  • Be subject to a promissory note that required the loan to be used only for higher education purposes.
Eligible Schools:
If a teacher does not meet one of the subject requirements below, then the school they teach at must be experiencing a general shortage of teachers. Eligible schools are determined by the Texas Education Agency.
Eligible Subject Areas:
If a teacher is not teaching at a school identified by the TEA as experiencing a shortage, then the teacher must be credentialed and teaching in a subject experiencing a shortage of teachers, as identified by the TEA.

Application Deadlines and Rules:
  • Applications must be submitted between April 1st and June 15th for each academic year.
  • Teachers must be full-time and teaching at either a preschool or a K-12 school.
