Do You Know What Your State's Financial Aid Deadline Is?

Missing a state financial aid deadline is one of the most common financial aid mistakes made by novice students and parents. Of course, the mistake is very understandable due to the fact that the deadline for the most popular Federal financial aid programs is relatively late in the year (June 30th). This leads many students and parents to not begin thinking about financial aid until their state financial aid deadline has passed.

To save you some heartache, here's a list of each state's financial aid deadline:

Alaska - Must be received by April 15, 2009.

Arkansas - Challenge Program must be received by June, 2009. Higher Education Grant must be received by June 1, 2009 (Spring term) or November 1, 2009 (Fall term).

Arizona - Must be received by March 1, 2009.

California - Must be postmarked by March 2, 2009.

Connecticut - Must be received by February 15, 2009.

D.C. - Must be received by June 30, 2009.

Delaware - Must be received April 15, 2009.

Florida - Must be processed (so mail it ASAP) by May 15th, 2009.

Iowa - Must be received by July 1, 2009.

Idaho - Must be received by March 1, 2009.

Illinois - Must be received by September 30, 2009 for first-time applicants (August 15, 2009 if reapplying).

Kansas - Must be received by April 1, 2009.

Kentucky - Must be received by March 12, 2009.

Louisiana - Must be received by July 1, 2009.

Maryland - Must be received by May 1, 2009.

Maine - Must be received by May 1, 2009.

Michigan - Must be received by March 1, 2009.

Minnesota - Must be received within 30 days after beginning of term.

Missouri - Must be received by April 1, 2009.

Mississippi - HELP program must be received by March 31, 2009. MESG and MTAG programs must be received by September 15, 2009.

Montana - Must be received by March 1, 2009.

North Dakota - Must be received by March 15, 2009.

New Hampshire - Must be received by May 1, 2009.

New Jersey - Must be received by October 1, 2009 for Fall and Spring terms. Students reapplying for Tuition Aid Grant must be received by June 1, 2009.

New York - Must be received by May 1, 2010.

Ohio - Must be received by October 1, 2009.

Oklahoma - Must by received by April 15, 2009 for priority consideration.

Pennsylvania - Must be received by May 1, 2009.

Rhode Island - Must be received by March 1, 2009.

South Carolina - Must be received by June 30, 2009.

Tennessee - State Grant program must be received by March 1, 2009. State Lottery program must be received by September 1, 2009.

West Virginia - Must be received by March 1, 2009.
