If you study the lives of these two men, it is obvious that education has played a much greater part in the life of Obama than of McCain. McCain was a shoo-in at the Naval Academy due to being descended from two four-star admirals but appreciated education so little that he partied his way to graduating 894th out of 899. Contrast that with Obama’s accomplishments of managing to graduate magna cum laude from Harvard Law School while serving in his last year as editor of the Law Review, which requires supervision of around 80 other editors.
I’m reading Dreams of My Father by Barack Obama, and it’s very clear that education played a major role in his entire family. He understands the difference it makes in a person’s life, and he’ll be far more supportive of education than McCain not only because of that, but because he sees it’s the right way to turn the country around.
Obabm is better in every sense of the word. Not only for education but for a planet in peril.
McCain policy is to sidestep current issues by pointing to the distant past, a time period which existed before most students were born.
Obamas campaign engages current issues and focuses on future events inspiring hope for a habitable planet.
The cost is not the problem. GSL’s and Pell Grants have been in place for decades and work just fine. Obama’s plan benefits kids who aren’t going to college anyway, especially if they have perform community service. I really like that requirement! No more Affirmative Action freebies!
That’s a great point Tod.
It seems that the program removes much of the financial excuses for not attending college.
Anyone who wants to go, now has help. They may have to work for it, but it’s there.
Tod is right, there are already vehicles in place to send anyone to college that wants to go. Not to mention federal assistance loans that pretty much anyone can qualify for. Obama’s “tax credit” plan essentially pays children to do community service, not go to school. Obama and Biden want to cut everyone a $4000 government check to do 100 hours of community service paid upfront for the coming school year. There has been no real explanation of how that’s going to work or how it’s going to be enforced. Once you cash your check, who’s going to make sure you go to class? Who is going to determine what qualifies as community service to receive the benefit?
