Does the GI Bill Promote a Violent Society?

Tuesday August 19, 2008
From time to time, I write articles covering the different aspects of government programs that either pay future college costs for joining the military (the GI Bill) or payoff existing loans.

One of my regular readers dropped me a line bringing up an interesting point. His basic argument was that these programs promote a warring society that rewards people for choosing a violent profession.

He also brought up the point that there is no other US government program that makes college funds available without needing repayment, on such a widespread basis.

Do you think he has got a valid point or do you think he is way off base?
