2010: A Date Many Parents No Longer Need to Fear...

Many parents were beginning to realize there was some major bad news potentially in-store for Section 529 plans. Namely, that tax-free withdrawals for college may have ended after 2010.

This "sunset" provision was written into the original creation of Section 529 plans. Thankfully, the Pension Protection Act of 2006 made the tax treatment of Section 529 accounts permanent.
